Loco Lu's is locally owned and family run. We believe in investing in our community. Our organization was created to provide our neighbors with a knowledge, products, services, and experioences that contribute to a higher quality of life. Our goal is to provide you with the best possible experience during your visit with us.
Our Start:
Loco Lu’s got it's start in 2008, as a local, independent coffeehouse/roaster retailer, in Raleigh, NC. The shop was family owned and operated. The shop evolved into more than just a coffee house. It became a community meeting place where individuals, couples, families, and groups could come together to share ideas, activities, and creative efforts as a community. Everyone was welcomed. The messag to all who came to the shop: "You're family when you come through the door, until you prove you're not". Everyone got it.
We sponsored music events. Open Mics, Jam sessions, working musician practices, "recitals" (more like professional debutes), rounds, Weekend music Paloozas (Loco Palooza and Lu's Paloosa), musician meetup groups, and booked music performances.
We sponsored meetup groups. Professional groups, bookclubs, mentoring groups, kntting and sewing groups, poetry and spoken word groups, political and social groups of many interests.
We promoted intelligent voting as well as meeting and understanding candidates. Through our "Meet the Candidate", any candidate, regardless of political party or affiliation, seeking any level of office which affected our district, was welcome to come out to represent themselves for consideration to the community. The success of the idea was it's ability to eliminate to talking heads and PR hype, allowing the community to meet, and speak with, the real candiate.
We fostered DYI innovation and exploration through our "Science Saturdays". An informal group of tinkerers, inventors, and scientists explored such things as Tesla Technologies, Bycicle Generators, Bedinin Over-Unity Devices, Solar Cookers, Solar Power, Solar Hot Water Heating, Mag-Lift devices, and more.
We embraced the whole community. Our community at the shop was perhaps the most eclectic, drawing from every segment of the community, creating an integrated, supportive community in which every had value and everyone contributed to the beeter experience.
A very special place is held in our hearts for the Special Needs community, which also became an integral party of our Loco Lu's community. With them, we all enjoyed exceptional experiences of energy, love, acceptance, and mutual support during our Special Needs open mics, crafts, and game nights. These special nights were highlights of our monthly calendar. If you attended, you know how great these event were.
It all continues as we evlove and grow.
