Beginning Aquaponics Workshop I - Beginning Aquaponics

Aquaponics is an efficient method of food production that is sustainable, eco-friendly, easy-to-do, and highly enjoyable.
This workshop provides an overview of Aquaponics, design and implementation options, supplies and equipment. Work continues with discussion on fish and plant selection, getting started, and system management. Aquaponics Workshop II - Hands On Aquaponic Systems
Date: Saturday (TBD)
Time: 8 am to 12 pm
Aquaponics is an efficient method of profitable food production that is sustainable, eco-friendly, easy-to-do, and highly enjoyable.
This workshop provides an overview of Aquaponics Media Based System Design and implementation options, supplies and equipment. This case based exercise begins with a discussion of goal definition, sizing, and design planning. It continues with location selection, system design considerations, and materials sourcing. Discussion of the physical process involved in using fish waste as plant nutrient will begin the second of the workshop. Further discussion covers water quality issues, cycling systems, and system startup. The discussions will be followed by hands-on examination and experience assembling, and implementing scale Deep Water Cycle, Nutrient Film Technique, Vertical Growing Systems, and Media Bed Aquaponic systems. Unless weather dictates indoor work, the hands-on session will be outdoors. Please bring warm clothes, a hat, waterproof shoes, work gloves, note taking material and pen or pencil.

Aquaponics Workshop III - Building an Expandable Media Based System

Time: 8 am to 2 pm
Aquaponics is an efficient method of profitable food production that is sustainable, eco-friendly, easy-to-do, and highly enjoyable.
This workshop provides an overview of Aquaponics Media Based System Design and implementation options, supplies and equipment. This case based exercise begins with a discussion of goal definition, sizing, and design planning. It continues with location selection, system design considerations, and materials sourcing. Each participant then follows their own copy of building procedures to build their own home aquaponics system that includes a 40+ gallon aquatic life tank, grow beds, plumbing, timer, and pump. Unless weather dictates indoor work, the hands-on session will be outdoors. Please bring warm clothes, a hat, waterproof shoes, work gloves, note taking material and pen or pencil.
